Getting to Magic Wood from Milan Malpensa airport

The trip to Magic Wood got off to a bit of a slow start, as my friend’s flight was delayed by a day, which meant that the plan of meeting at Milan Malpensa airport and then driving through together wasn’t going to work. So on Saturday I flew into Milan and then came through to Magic Wood by train/bus on my own which was surprisingly easy. Actually, it’s not surprising really – western European public transport is great, if not particularly cheap. The route was as follows: Train from Milan Malpensa to Bellinzona From Terminal 1, buy a train ticket to Bellinzona (€14.50). Then, while you wait for the train, visit the Carrefour in Terminal 1 where you can stock up on snacks for the day of travelling ahead of you. Once on the train, you actually need to change to another train at Cadenazzo even though the train you originally got on gives Bellinzona as its final destination. New Zealand and Back to Family!

Much to my surprise, arriving in New Zealand was quite a shock to the system, genuine culture shock after the better part of three months in Asia. Or maybe reverse-culture shock, since obviously New Zealand far more closely represents what I know and the life I normally live. It's hard to put my finger on why I had that reaction, but I think a sense of constriction from the order of everything compared the ever slightly chaotic streets we had inhabited, and I think also being around family, as easy and pleasant as it was, also took away from the solitude and I guess in a sense the selfishness of the past few months where I could work and play entirely to my own schedule. 2016 - back on the road to 8a

For a while now I've felt like I needed to start writing again, but have procrastinated at sitting down and gathering my thoughts. Admittedly, I've had a fair bit on this year between my massage training, moving home and organising the wedding, all whilst still trying to keep up with the 'basics' of my climbing training, iRacing and of course keeping to the grind that pays the bills. I plan to write about my climbing and training on a semi-regular basis, so a recap is in order (and won't take very much time at all). I spent almost all of 2015 fighting injuries. An impingement had my shoulder so unstable I couldn't do push up for most of the first half of the year, then no sooner had I started to regain a bit of strength than I dislocated my ankle jumping off a high ball in Fontainebleau in August.
